IV-  Complete the following sentences with the present auxiliary and answer them.

PRESENT SIMPLE (AFFIRMATIVE)

Remember when we use the present simple:

DAMN MATH
CHAPTER 10: THE TEA OF THE FIVE

-      That means the Mad Hatter and his friends are having tea at five, ”Charlie said. Which is not strange, because they take it at all hours.
And, indeed, they continued advancing by the diagonal of the forest of numbers and soon after they saw the Hatter and the March Hare having tea at a table arranged under a tree. Among them, the Dormouse slept soundly. The table was very large, and yet the three diners had clustered together in one corner. Seeing Alice approach, the Hare and the Hatter began to scream:

-      There is no place! There is no place!
-      There is plenty of room, ”the girl replied indignantly, as she sat in a wide armchair at the head of the table. Charlie, who was still smiling enigmatically at her, sat next to her.
-      Which do you prefer, half an apple pie or two quarters? Asked the March Hare to Alicia, offering her a welcoming smile.
-      Are you staying with me? Half a cake is the same as two quarters - said the girl.
-      All right, you've just discovered the equivalent fractions, ”the Mad Hatter congratulated her.
-      Sure: 1/2 = 2/4, ”added the Hare.
-      Although perhaps you are a glutton and you prefer to eat 50% of the cake, ”said the Hatter.
-      It's alright to tease me! Alicia protested. 50% of the cake is also the same as half.
-      What a smart girl! Exclaimed the March Hare, clapping her ears.
-      Why is 50% the same as half? The Dormouse asked without opening his eyes.
-      Because if you take fifty out of a hundred parts, it is the same as taking half - Alicia answered quickly
-      Oh yeah? How it shows that you are not the one who has to cut the cake! Replied the Hatter. Do you think it is the same to break it into two pieces and give you one than to break it into a hundred pieces and give you fifty?
-      The job used to break it is not the same, "admitted the girl," but the amount of cake I have is the same.
-      So 1/2 and 50/100 are equivalent fractions, ”said the Hare; the second can be simplified and become the first.
-      You can and you should simplify! Exclaimed the Mad Hatter, waving the knife like a baton. So do not pretend, whimsical child, that I cut the cake into a hundred parts to give you fifty.
-      I am not capricious nor do I pretend ...! Alice began to protest, but the March Hare interrupted her:
-      Maybe this cute and greedy girl prefers 0.5 cakes.
-      More greedy than sympathetic, ”said the Hatter.
-      Enough already! Exclaimed Alice exasperated, "0.5 too it's the same as half.
-      Why? Asked the Dormouse without fully waking up.
-      Well, because… ”the girl began to say, but she realized that she was not very clear.
-      Because our positional numbering system, said Charlie, allows us not only to express units, tens, hundreds and other multiples of ten by means of the position of the numbers, but also tenths, hundredths, thousandths ...
-      And who is that? The March Hare asked, as if she had just become aware of Charlie's presence.
-      He is a famous writer and mathematician, "replied Alicia," and he is also your author: Lewis Carroll himself.
The Hatter and the Hare trembled.

-         Have mercy, Mr. Author, do not annihilate us! Implored the March Hare.

-         Keep thinking of us! The Mad Hatter pleaded.

-      Don't worry, Charlie reassured them, you are among my favorite characters, and nobody wants more than me to continue to exist. But also, even if I wanted to destroy you, I couldn't do it, since you live in the minds of millions of readers. Right now, someone is reading to you.
-      Oh yeah? So can we be wayward and brash with you? Said the March Hare; but the Mad Hatter kicked him under the table and begged:
-      Please, dear author, explain about the positional system.

-      It's very simple, like all great things, ”said Charlie. When we write, for example, 347, it means that we have 7 ones, 4 tens and 3 hundreds ...

Neither short nor lazy, the Hatter took a paintbrush out of a pocket, dipped it in a molasses jar and traced the three large figures on the white tablecloth; then, with a tiny pencil, he wrote "hundreds," "tens," and "units" under the corresponding numbers.

-      You've lost the tablecloth, ”Alicia commented.
-      It's all about science, ”said the Hatter. In addition, it is a washable tablecloth.
-      Well, "continued Charlie," using a simple comma we can expand our wonderful decimal positional system and also include tenths, hundredths, thousandths ... So, if we write 347,125 ...
The Mad Hatter dipped the brush in the molasses again and took out the pencil, and completed his task.

-      I see ... The first number to the right of the comma represents the tenths, so 0.5 means five tenths, that is, half, "said Alice.
-      Exactly, ”Charlie said. And in the same way that ten units is one ten and ten tens are one hundred, ten tenths are one unit, ten hundredths are one tenth, ten thousandths are one hundredth, and so on. If this figure expressed a weight in kilos ...
-      He would be a very fat person, ”said the March Hare.
-      Or a very skinny hippo, ”added the Mad Hatter.
-      In any case, that person or that hippo would weigh 347 kilos and 125 grams, since one gram, as you know, is one thousandth of a kilo, ”Charlie concluded.
-      Don't you have more cake? The Hare asked Alicia.
-      I can't take any more cake, since I haven't had anything yet, ”replied the girl.
-      If you haven't taken anything, what you can't, of course, is take less - observed the Hatter -. What do you prefer, half a kilo of cake or 500 grams?
-      You'll take it with tea, I suppose, ”added the Hare. Do you want a quarter of a liter or 250 cubic centimeters?
-      Again?! Alice exclaimed in exasperation. Everyone knows that half a kilo is the same as 500 grams and that a quarter of a liter is the same as 250 cubic centimeters!
-      Why? Asked the Dormouse, opening one eye; but he closed it again immediately.
-      Everyone knows, and we have just said it, "replied the girl, with an impatient gesture," that a kilo is a thousand grams, so half a kilo is the same as 500 grams. And everyone also knows that a quarter of a liter is the same as 250 cubic centimeters.

-         Why? Asked the sleepy Dormouse again.
-      Charlie will explain it to you, ”said Alicia, who wasn't really clear on it.
With his characteristic enigmatic half smile, the writer took a dice out of a jacket pocket and put it on the table.
-      "This dice is a cube one centimeter on a side," he said, "and its volume is one cubic centimeter."

-         Why? Asked the Dormouse so as not to lose his habit.

-      By definition, ”Charlie replied. We call "cubic centimeter" the volume of a cube one centimeter on a side. Well, a liter is equal to a cubic decimeter, that is to say, to the volume of a cube of a decimeter of a side, and a cubic decimeter is a thousand cubic centimeters. So a quarter of a liter is the same as 250 cubic centimeters.
-      Why is a cubic decimeter a thousand cubic centimeters? Alicia asked then. If I remember correctly, a decimeter is ten centimeters. Charlie took out his little pocket notebook and pencil and drew a picture.
-      Here's a three-inch cube on a side, ”he said.

How many cubes of a centimeter on side contains? After examining the drawing carefully, the girl replied:
-      There are three floors of nine cubes each, therefore there are twenty-seven.
-      Exactly: 3 x 3 x 3 = 27. Similarly, if the cube had a decimeter on each side, that is, ten centimeters, it would contain 10 x 10 x 10 = 1,000 cubes of a centimeter on each side. Therefore, a cubic decimeter equals one thousand cubic centimeters.
-      What I can't believe is that in a small bucket of only one decimeter on a side it will fit an entire liter, said the March Hare.

-      Let's check it out, ”said the Mad Hatter. From under the table he produced a piece of thick and quite rigid felt, large scissors, a meter, thread and needle and other gadgets typical of his trade. In a jiffy he made a cube one-sided open at the top, like a box without a lid. It can serve as a hat to some square head of those that abound so much - he commented with a giggle.
The Hare took a liter bottle of mineral water from the table, opened it, and emptied it into the cube felt    box.
-      It is going to leave —alicia commented.
-      It is waterproofed felt. My hats don't fit, ”said the Hatter, with professional pride.
The water filled the felt container to the very edge, without a drop falling out.
-      Exactly one liter, what a coincidence! Exclaimed the March Hare.
-      Well, the "coincidences" aren't over yet, "Charlie said, smiling at the Hare's astonished face. If we could weigh this liter or cubic decimeter of water ...
-      We can, ”said the Mad Hatter, and produced from under the table a large scale of brass saucers.
The Hare poured the water from the felt container into one of the saucers, which, thankfully, was large enough to hold it all. On the other plate, the Hatter put a one kilo weight. The balance was perfectly balanced.
-      A liter weighs exactly a kilo! Exclaimed the March Hare. It's amazing!
-      Why? The Dormouse asked between snoring and snoring.
-      There's nothing amazing about it at all, ”Charlie explained,“ it was done this way so that length, capacity, and weight measurements were related to each other. The meter was first defined, which is very roughly one ten-millionth of the quadrant of a terrestrial meridian. The quadrant is the fourth part; that is, that a meridian measures about 40 million meters, or what is the same,

40,000 kilometers. Once the meter with its multiples and submultiples was defined, the liter was defined as the capacity of a cubic container of one decimeter on each side, and the kilogram as the weight of a liter of water.
-      So our measurement system is called the "metric system"? Alicia asked.
-      Yes, because all of it is based on the subway.
-      If it were based on the liter, it would be called lyrical, ”said the Hatter.
-      And if it were based on the gram, it would be called a grammar, ”added the March Hare.
-      Its full name is "decimal metric system" —said Charlie—, because the units go from ten to ten: ten millimeters is a centimeter, ten centimeters is a decimeter, ten decimeters are a meter ...
-      At that moment a card man came and, without saying a word, handed an envelope to the Mad Hatter, who opened it with trembling hands.
-      I'm afraid of the worst, ”he said, and after reading the note it contained, he exclaimed,“ The worst of the worst!
-      The Queen of Hearts orders you to attend a trial as a witness, ”commented the March Hare, reading the note over the Hatter's shoulder.
-      That's not so serious, ”Alicia reassured him. The witnesses are in no danger.
-      They will accuse me of false testimony and they will cut off my head! Screamed the Mad Hatter. And a headless hatter is professionally finished!
-      They can't accuse you of false testimony if you don't lie, ”said the girl.
-      And how do I know if I'm going to lie or not?
Alice was going to reply, but the man playing card grabbed the Mad Hatter by the arm and dragged him away. The Hare went after them, albeit at a safe distance.
-      Why? The Dormouse asked, waking up abruptly. He looked around confused and ran away.
